A hat is made up of several distinct elements that determine its style, comfort, and usefulness. Here's an overview of the main parts that make it up:
The Two Main Components
-
The skullcap
This is the upper part of the hat, made up of several elements: - The crown (or rosette): It can take different shapes (water drop, diamond, petal, etc.). In 90% of cases, it is molded using a metal or wooden form. At CROCHEZ France , we mold all crowns by hand, thus giving a unique character to each hat.
- The crown : The vertical part of the hat, it can be more or less high. For example, the crown of a top hat is much higher than that of a boater, which is relatively low.
- The square : This is the part that connects the crown and the upright. It can be more or less pronounced, with a clean or softer line depending on the desired style.
2. The edge
The brim of the hat plays a vital role in its final appearance. Depending on its shape and size, it can be:
- Wide or narrow
-
Flat, curved or inclined
These variations directly influence the overall appearance of the model.
The Interior Components
The inside of a hat also has specific elements:
- Head entry : This can be made of fabric or leather. We recommend a 100% cotton head entry for optimal comfort. It also acts as a sweat barrier.
- The lining (or cap) : It covers the inside of the hat and gives it a neat finish.
- The label : Traditionally sewn in the middle back of the headpiece, it is often accompanied by a "boufette", a small symbolic ribbon bow.
